Treasure Lake PA Area Guide

Welcome to the community of Treasure Lake. Treasure Lake is a private, gated development located 100 miles north east of Pittsburgh outside of DuBois. With over 9,000 acres of wooded land and 2000 homes you will find our community the ideal escape from the fast paced big city life.

Among the lush woods, meandering lakes and quiet beaches there is peace and tranquility living side by side with every imaginable recreational opportunity available year round. From our two PGA rated golf courses, tennis courts, driving range, swimming pools, stables, beaches, sledding and tubing hills, the outdoors man will be right at home.

Young families will appreciate the nature trails, ball fields, basketball court, and playgrounds within the guard-gated community. The public school system in DuBois is excellent and the crime rate is extremely low. Retirees enjoy the many planned activities and social events such as aerobics, the sportsman's club, bridge and quilters.

What attracts most of homeowners is the majestic Treasure Lake itself. The lake is designated for motor boats, has a fully stocked marina and 200 rental slips. Two sandy beaches line the shore of this lake where water skiing, fishing and swimming activities prevail during the summer months; ice fishing and skating in the winter months. Members congregate at one of the two restaurants, the Lakeview Lodge and Ski Lodge after a hard day of boating, golf and tennis.

Treasure Lake History

Treasure Lake HistoryIn June of 1842 John Du Bois rode into the area in a horse drawn buggy. He was looking over the forest to determine its potential for a lumber business. He acquired 35,000 acres of forest land in Clearfield County and launched a successful lumbering business. It was then that DuBois became established as a town.

In later years John Du Bois’ nephew, John E. Du Bois, Jr. acquired the property which was so special to him and his family. He conceived the idea of establishing this land as a recreational area which could be enjoyed by others. He determined that a lake could be constructed which would add to the enjoyment of the facilities. He named the lake “Rene” after his wife. In 1968 the property was sold to Great Northern Development Company, Lake Rene became Treasure Lake and in 1969 the Declaration of Restrictions was developed. The sale of lots began. Over the years there have been several other developers and in February 1996 the Treasure Lake Owners Association assumed ownership of all the Amenities at Treasure Lake.
